The Kannur city police force is headed by District Police Chief, also known as Commissioner of Police.  The District Police Chief is assisted by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police in Administrative matters and Assistant Commissioners of Police, Inspector Station House Oficers, Sub Inspectors, Assistant Sub Inspectors, Senior Civil Police Officers and Civil Police Officers.The Police District is divided into Sub Divisions and Police Stations. Each headed by the officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and Inspector Station House Officer respectively. Special Units like District Special Branch,District Crime Branch, District Crime Records Bureau,District Narcotic Cell and Crime Dettachment are headed by Assistant Commissioners. The District Armed Reserve Camp headed by a Deputy Commandant is functioning with its headquarters near District Police Office.. A Vanitha Cell under a WCI is also functioning under the Supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Crime Detachment.
